The city and its Region

Medellin, capital of the department of Antioquia, is located in the Valley of Aburra, on the central mountain range, with a height of 1,538 meters above sea level. The Medellin River crosses the Valley from south to north and flows into the Nechi River with the name of Porce. In the valley, other nine municipalities are located besides Medellin. Within the urban landscape the Nutibara hills and the Rocket stand out. These geographic features rise as green spots in the middle of the constructions that occupy all the flat part of the valley and good extension of slopes. The Valley of Aburra is extended from north to the south and displays a widening in its average part, where Medellin is located.

Climate

With an average temperature of 24ºC / 75.2ºF Medellin has been called the City of the Eternal Spring. Throughout the year there are two rainy seasons: the first one goes from March to May and the second goes from September to November. The rest of the year the weather is drier.

Tourist and Cultural attractions

Medellin’s tourist attractions are represented with historical and contemporary constructions, churches, museums and theaters, spaces outdoors and parks within the urban perimeter. Perhaps six of the most attractive architectonic and urban works are the renewed Museum of Antioquia, the intelligent building of Public Companies of Medellin, the new convention center, the Cisneros square and the Barefoot park along with the park of Desires. Medellin is a city with a long tradition in the industry and business world, especially in the textile and tailoring fields. There are more than 20 malls in the city, with all sorts of tastes and prices which certainly are a point of attraction for the visitor.
