XXXIII INTER AMERICAN CONGRESS OF PSYCHOLOGY
Medellin, 26 to 30 June 2011
Dear friends of the SIP:
The city of Medellin, Colombia, it's preparing to welcome all those who come to this great event from 26th to 30th June 2011. This is the second Congress of the Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP in Spanish) to be held in Colombia. In 1974 was held in Bogotá the XV Congress of Psychology and 2,800 people participated, a number large enough for the time.
The XXXIII Congress of Psychology is held under the slogan “For the People’s Health: A Psychology Engaged with Social Transformation.” This is an excellent opportunity to promote the scientific and professional knowledge relations and disseminate cutting-edge psychological research, new intervention programs and services relating to psychology in the Americas, in addition to the wealth and cultural diversity of the host country.
Job submission to Congress greatly exceeded the expectations we had; we received 2,264 entries from over 29 countries and now the inscriptions, 73 days apart from the date, exceeded the 1,400 from more than 40 countries. The traffic analysis web page shows 11,580 visits last month, people who show interest from the 5 continents. In the final academic programming will be scheduled around a thousand speakers.
The countries that so far have confirmed more inscriptions besides Colombia are Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Puerto Rico, Chile, and Peru; countries which mostly have more than 100 people that will attend each one.
The Executive Committee is very pleased with the massive response from all regions of the world and is working hard to make this one of the best Interamerican Congresses of Psychology, both for high academic quality of the event and for the excellent organization of the same.
Those who visit us will have the opportunity to meet Medellin, one of the most prosperous cities in the Americas, which enjoys spring weather throughout the year, with open arms people to visitors and eloquent testimony to the varied wealth of Colombian culture.
Tourists can visit museums, parks, libraries, ecological niches and admire with their own eyes the Botero’s Plaza with 15 of Fernando Botero's creations in one place. Also can go around the city by Metro and Metrocable and enjoy the warmth of its people.
At the end of the event we will confirm our statement: “Colombia, the risk is wanting to stay” ("Colombia, el riesgo es que te quieras quedar” in Spanish).
We are waiting for you with open arms.
HENRY CASTILLO. PhD.
President
